Most Samsung top-loaders replace the tall central agitator with a low-profile impeller plate. They use markedly less water and move clothes far more gently, and that is a design decision rather than a defect. It also produces the most common Samsung complaint we hear: clothes not coming out as clean as the owner expected, or detergent residue left on darks. In hard-water areas that residue problem is worse, because less water and a gentler action leave more behind. A good technician will tell you honestly when a machine is working as designed — that is not a repair and you should not be charged for one.
Impeller machines are more sensitive to load distribution than agitator machines, particularly with a single heavy item like a bath mat or a duvet. Samsung's controls respond by redistributing, refilling to re-float the load, slowing the spin, or halting with a code. A machine that trips on one bulky item is behaving correctly. A machine that trips on ordinary mixed loads has something mechanical behind it — usually suspension, the balance ring, or a machine that is simply not level.
Fill problems trace to the inlet valve and its mesh screens. Drainage faults are typically the pump or a blockage. Lid-lock failures stop a cycle dead. Electronic control and sensor faults show up more on these machines than on mechanically simpler ones, which is the trade-off for the feature set.
Samsung's scheme is consistent and readable across recent machines. 4C or 4E is a water supply error. 5C or 5E is a drain error. UB or U6 is an unbalanced load. dC means the lid is open or the lock has failed. 3C or 3E points at the motor. LC indicates a leak has been detected. As always the code names the function that failed, not the part that caused it.
Lid lock and inlet valve work commonly runs $100 to $250. A drain pump is $125 to $300. Suspension rods as a set are a middle-range job. Control boards are the expensive end at $200 to $500 and are less often the real cause than people assume. Your technician quotes a flat price before any work starts.
